Browsing the forums at Mobile Fun, (a really good Mobile Phone Store by the way), I noticed a thread where a member was asking about PUK codes. I personally knew what a PUK, aka PUC was as I had delt with them many years ago but looking at results for PUK Code on Google it seems many people are unaware exactly what this “PUK Code” or PUC is. So let me explain…

Phone Blocked - Enter PUK Code

Phone Blocked - Enter PUK Code

A PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) or PUC Personal Unblocking Code, is a security feature added by mobile phone networks to help protect a Sim Card from unauthorised use. What? I hear you ask, well mobile phone users are encouraged to protect their phone with a code. There are usually two sorts of code firstly there’s a Phone Lock Code, or something phased that way, that is simply a code to prevent access to your phone unless the correct code is entered. However if someone removes your sim card, and puts it into another phone they could effectively use your credit, your phone number and even have access to your contacts. Therefore a Sim Lock Code can be added as-well so that the access to your number, credit and potentially your contacts can also be prevented if this code is enabled on the sim card.

Now if you enter the incorrect code 3 times when asked for your Sim Lock Code, the Sim card becomes blocked and a PUC or PUK code is requested. In order to get this code you will have to contact your service provider and provide them with some simple security details. They will then provide you with a long code that will allow you to unlock your sim and allow you to use it again.

Below I have provided links to the right place to get your PUK/PUC or further details on how to obtain your code. Remember you can only get the code from your Service Provider i.e. your network not another. Also don’t guess the PUK/PUC as you only have a limited amount of times to enter it correctly, usually 10. If you enter it incorrectly more times than this the sim will be permanently blocked and you will need to request a new one from your network.
