11/09/2010 to 17/09/2010
A day late, for which I appologise, as I was away last week in Wales with around a 5-10kbps connection therefore I was unable to read much of the news let alone blog it. And just like last year when I was away for the Apple iPhone 3GS event, again I missed another busy week!
This week… HTC Launch 2 new devices, Nokia Launch 3 New Devices, Playstation Move is out, Twitter gets a redesign, IE9 Beta, HDCP Cracked and a date of PS3 3D is announced! What a busy week but never fear, Cloud Bite is here to keep you fully updated…
HDCP Master Key Released
On the 14th of September a master key for HDCP was supposedly released and this has now been confirmed via Intel. For those of you thinking HD…what? HDCP is the encryption used via devices like Bluray players, Displays with HDMI ports etc, to send and receive digital content. The idea is to prevent content from being linked to a “rogue” device that enables content to be easily copied. Each device has its own set of keys that it uses to encrypt and decrypt data. If a key was ever released into the wild newer content would refuse that key. However it seems that a master key has been released that overrides all the individual keys. What this could mean is we could soon see torrent sites featuring fully uncompressed versions of HD Content!
Twitter Gets A Redesign
Also on the 14th September Twitter released its new design. Now with a more media friendly web client, users can fully integrate video and images right within Twitter. Also Twitter have added direct support for many web services so that you can view their content without leaving the twitter page. Check out the gallery bellow to see the new Twitter.
Will this kill dedicated clients like Tweetdeck, Tweetie etc? I doub’t it! But for those who do use the web client it adds a lot of long awaited features!
Nokia Introduces 3 New Phones
Nokia have firstly introduced the C6 and C7 Symbian handsets with 8mp cameras and 720p Video. The main difference between the two devices is the C7 gets more memory and a stainless steel body. Personally I prefer the look of the C6 but that’s just personal preference!
Next Nokia introduced the E7 QWERTy, and guess what, it comes with a QWERTY slider. Designed towards business users the device runs Symbian 3, has a 4 inch tilting touchscreen, 8mp camera with 720p video recording. It doesn’t have a micro SD card slot but comes with a handy 16GB memory. The self proclaimed “Ultimate Business Smartphone” really does pack a punch!
Internet Explorer 9 Public Beta Out
On the 15th of September Microsoft released IE9 Beta to the public. As reported last week IE 9 has moved on leaps and bounds since IE8 and even scored 95/100 in the Acid 3 tests. The browser is definitely worth checking out and finally brings the huge gap between IE and other browsers to a much smaller size.
New HTC Phones
Also on the 15th HTC released 2 new phones. The much rumoured HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z were officially announced in London making the HTC Line up stronger than ever.
The desire HD features a 4.3 inch display and even has Dolby Mobile and SRS Virtual surround Sound. Also packing a 1ghz CPU, 768mb ram, 8mp camera with 720p video recording and of course Android 2.2 the HTC Desire HD is a incredible multimedia mobile device.
The Desire Z features a 3.7 inch display, so a little smaller than the Desire HD but includes a nice QWERTY slide keyboard (watch out Nokia E7)! Running a slower 800mhz CPU 512mb Ram, and just a 5mp camera with 720p recording the desire Z is a less punchy mobile device that its bigger brother but still packs a great punch. One of the interesting features is both have a 400×800 pixel screen so the Desire HD is just a stretched screen not actually better in terms of quality.
Finally HTC intoduced HTCSense.com that will bring a new dimension to HTC Sense. Rather like Apple’s Mobile Me features HTC Sense will let you lock your phone if you cannot find it and make the phone display a message. Also you will be able to locate the phone online too so if your not sure where you left it just jump onto the site and find the phone, just like Mobile Me. Finally HTC will let you lock down and erase the contents of the phone even diverting calls to another number, all very clever but we have seen it before. On top of all this though you can use HTC Sense to save all texts you send and receive, ideal for archiving. You can even use it to make contacts and update them right from your PC! Footprints will let you see where you have gone and even let you create a route and send it direct to the phone. I do love this feature and hope Apple for us iPhone users think about something like this as the GPS on the iPhone with basic Google Maps is pretty poor. Finally Sense will help you discover new and trusted apps.
iPad 4.2 BETA Released
iOS 4.2 BETA is out and this iOS edition is mainly for the iPad. So far people have said it works really well and includes the long awaited multitasking that the iPad really needs in order for it to truely compete with the netbook market. Also it brings features including AirPrint allowing the user to print wirelessly, the screenlock switch is now a silence switch as there is now the screen lock button on the multitask bar like in the iPhones.
PlayStation Move out Now, 3D Soon!
People in the UK can now take advantage on the Playstation Move as it is now out and already in peoples homes! The wii like controller but with heightened accuracy should add another dimension to gaming that the PS3 has been missing and with the release of PS3 3.5 near (21st September) which introduces 3D capability the PS3 is all ready for the Christmas season!
So that’s it, what a week your round up is complete!
