Wakoopa Tracks your Computer Usage

Wakoopa Tracks your Computer Usage

Have you ever wondered how much time you have spent on a Application? How long you spend browsing the web, playing games working in Office and Photoshopping? Well Wakoopa is a great little application I came across after @blakey15 mentioned how long he had been on the computer over the past month. I swiftly replied asking how you can find out this information and @blakey15 replied with “I use an Application called Wakoopa”, so I got straight on Google and searched for it.

After finding the Wakoopa Website and signing up which takes a couple of minutes and installed the tracking software which runs in the background using un-noticeable system resources.

After a few hours the Wakoopa system starts to create a profile and statistics of all your usage and can tell you exactly to the second how long you have been using a particular application.

Above is an example of the graphs that Wakoopa can create showing usage in this case of the types of programs used and a bar graph of the most used applications. The graphs are fully interactive if you hover over the the chart then you can see what each colour represents and how much usage there was at a given time.

Wakoopa creates an online profile for you which others can see or you can restrict if you wish. After using the program for about a week you really begin to build up statistics on your usage. I can see from above I have been playing games alot this week and the main game has been Modern Warfare 2, and I have also been browsing the net alot using Google Chrome. I can also see I have used 77 different applications and my usage since I started tracking is 5 days, 3 hours, 36 minutes and 37 seconds at the time of writing.

The more you do and the more the program tracks you get awarded points and gain levels this is more of a gimmick but still it’s kinda cool “Levelling up”.

That’s not all you can see exactly what applications you are actively using and  what applications are running in the background and exactly how long for. Each tracked application also has its own page on the website. From this you can see how popular an application is, what other users are using it, reviews of the application from other users, screenshots and further information regarding the application.

Overall I’m really impressed with the Wakoopa application and service they provide online. It is definitely worth trying out for anyone who interested with their usage.

You can get your hands on Wakoopa at there website and view my Profile too.

Okay, I like the overall idea but will it work for a PC that’s not constantly connected to the online world? Because I work off of a 3 mobile broadband dongle and living under my dad’s terms and conditions for the home, I can’t be online every day at all times. Will it be able to automatically detect when I connect and thus update my data?

That’s actually a good question, I’m always online but for users who aren’t then I doubt it would continue to track. I have had a look online and cannot find any mention that it needs to always be connected to the net however there’s no mention that it doesn’t either!

So for a person like yourself who isn’t online constantly then I’m afraid this program probably isn’t for you :( I’ll keep my eyes open looking for other solutions though.
