What Firefox 5, already?

Download Firefox 5 Today!

It doesn’t seem too long ago that Firefox 4 was released, infact it was 22nd March 2011 when the last version was out so this is a pretty quick turn-around. The reason for this is Mozilla have now changed their release model to a quick release schedule.

“Mozilla’s shift to a rapid release development cycle delivers cutting edge Firefox features, performance enhancements, security updates and stability improvements to users faster. – Mozilla Blog

This might also be Firefox’s way to keep up with market-share gaining competitors like Google Chrome that is rapidly becoming one of the most popular browsers. We often see new releases of Chrome constantly bringing improvements to the browser and it looks like Mozilla want to do the same with Firefox. Appparently Firefox is now on a 18-week release-cycle meaning more updates are to come before the year is out.

It’s worth noting there are improvements to new technologies like HTML 5 and CSS 3 and stability improvements but other than that nothing much has changed and it still scores the exact same on the HTML5test website as version 4.
