Apple announces the iPhone 4S, A5 CPU, Siri voice intelligence, 8MP 1080p Camera and iOS 5.

So Apple has announced the Successor the best selling iPhone of all time, the iPhone 4. Called the iPhone 4S similar to the iPhone 3GS, Apple has done little to the design of the phone but increased it’s speed by including the A5 Dual Core CPU. They have also included a fantastic 8mp, f2.4, 1080p video recording camera with video stabilisation. Also included is Siri. This is from a company that Apple brought out a couple of years ago. Siri lets you talk to the iPhone and ask anything like, “Will I need a raincoat” and the phone will check if the forecast says it likely to rain. Also you can dictate text messages, set up your calendar and control music. You can now download up to 14mbps with the new chip and antenna design. Finally of course the iPhone 4S will include iOS 5. iOS 5 will be released on 12th October for iPhone 3GS, 4 4S, iPod Touch 3rd/4th and iPad 1/2.

Want a absolutely fantastic app to play? Want great Visuals? Want Great Physics? Sprinkle is for you just be warned its very, addictive!

It has been a while since our last App review but this one caught the eye of myself any many others for its fantastic looking graphics, excellent physics and addictive gameplay! Sprinkle is one of those Apps we rarely see, with its uniqueness and fantastic design it should be right up there with such greats including Angry Birds and Doodle Jump. My only warning with this game is it is very addictive and you will want to spend hours saving the little monsters homes from being burnt to a crisp!

Lets call him "Boris" for now

That brings me on to what Sprinkle is all about. Basically you’re in control of a water cannon that goes up and down and will tilt in nearly 180 degree direction. You need to use the water cannon to put out all the fire as quickly as possible before you run out of water or a home of the “little monsters” gets destroyed. It’s not a simple case of pointing the cannon at the fire and clicking “squirt” either. The maps aren’t all simple and contain blocks you have to move and more physics elements too.

You can get the app from the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad or from the Android Market Place. Still undecided?

Why not check out our video review below:

Overall

Overall Sprinkle is a fantastic must buy app. Get it now before your friends and show them what they are missing out on! With lots of levels and addictive gameplay you will be putting out fires with Ouie (the firefighter) for hours! Therefore this app gets a very very rare 5 out of 5 clouds rating as it deserves every single one!

Thanks to Mediocre for allowing us to use visuals in this review, and thanks for the great app!

It has been a well heated topic on weather consumers will ever have an Apple device available on the Verizon network, opposed to AT&T.

It has been a well heated topic on whether consumers will ever have an Apple device available on the Verizon network, opposed to the AT&T network. After the iPad became available with Verizon, consumers have awaited for the iPhone to become available on the network.

The iPhone 4 will be available on Verizon starting February 10th, and will sell for $199.99 for the base 16GB storage capacity. Pre-sale orders are no longer from Verizon, which seems like they have sold all of their phones, so if you’re planning on buying one, you might have to wait a few weeks.

Verizon has stepped up, and addressed the wrong-hand-dropped-call problem. The original iPhone 4 with AT&T has a built-in antenna that if someone held the phone with their left hand, their call would be dropped. Verizon added a antenna breaker on the top left corner of the phone, which will hopefully thoroughly make this problem obsolete.

The Verizon iPhone 4 will be an interesting phone to see rival the AT&T iPhone 4. The antenna problem might just be the lone reason for consumers to switch from AT&T to Verizon. Additional Apps or hardware haven’t been released. Once the iPhone is released, we will surely be able to see if the switch is worth a new antenna.

The TomTom Car Kit for iPhone and iPod Touch is meant to solve all the GPS issues. Heres the unboxing of the kit!

It can be really annoying when you get lost. Travelling to somewhere think you know the way and either the roads changed, there are road works with diversions, or maybe your just not a great navigator! Also why is you find you could just do with satnav when you haven’t brought it with you. I always leave my trusty old TomTom at home unless I expect to need to use it so that it isn’t stolen when left in the car and its far too bulky to carry around. If only we had one device that could do everything. Then again can’t the iPhone? It can make phone calls (some would question that ), it can browse the web, take photos, video, and navigate us with one of the many apps from the app store! But for some navigation isn’t quite as good as it could be!One of the problems trying to get everything packed into such a small device is that there has to be compromise. The iPhone therefore has a rather underpowered GPS chip that relies more on the data connection to work out your location accurately. Therefore for navigation the iPhone just can’t keep up when our driving around. In order to solve this problem TomTom designed the Car Kit. What this does is houses a GPS Chip much more powerful than the iPhone one and therefore makes navigation work as it should. Its also a great holder for the iPhone too!

Cydia and Rock have become one, the merge is pretty much complete, Jailbreakers, it's party time!

Over the past few days the transfer has been complete and Rock Your Phone, has fully transferred to Cydia. If you haven’t got a clue what this means then your probably not an iOS user or your not into the whole “Jailbreak” scene. Basically when a iOS device is jailbroken they have access to Apps /scripts etc that Apple doesn’t approve. Well so that jailbroken users can get these apps easily they can use Applications such as Cydia and Rock which act as App Stores for jailbroken apps! Cydia was the original and in many peoples eyes the best App store for jailbroken users. Rock however is faster, looks sweeter on the eye and has exclusive apps that Cydia doesn’t have. These exclusives are created by the Rock App team and are very popular Apps. Originally announced on 11th Spetember 2010, the transfer is pretty much complete, which now makes Cydia the largest Independent App Store in the World. Rock users need not worry about their purchases though as these will all be transfered if not already and if your thinking what about the backup feature, then never fear as that is been added to the Cydia store!

Here are some Rock Facts:

Number of Developers with apps listed in the Rock Store: 124 (from 19 countries)

Unique iOS devices that installed Rock: 4.6 million (from 220 countries/territories)

Registered Rock Users: 2+ million

Number of App licenses sold: 500,000

Users of who took the plunge and bought something: 280,000 (from 185 countries)

Users who said screw it and installed a hacked version instead: 38 billion (please send us $1)

Total Rock Your Phone Store Sales (March 12th, 2009 – September 2010): $3.3+ million

Number of Rock Employees (we are using the word employee loosely here but, hey, it is our company): 9

An iPhone is a useful but expensive Gadget. It's also really popular so why not make yours look a little different. Here are 3 totally different cases for both style and the ultimate protection!

An iPhone is one of those gadgets you that if you have got one, then it got damaged you would probably realise how useful it really was! The only problem I have come across with the iPhone is they are too good. Your probably a little confused now, but the problem with being so good is they are really popular so standing out in the crowd or just having something a little different but still having that phone everyone wants can be difficult. Well why not put a case on it? Not only will you get some protection for your device but you can get a great new look too! There are lots of different iPhone cases out there, some designed for the ultimate protection some to just add a new look and some do a bit of both. CaseFun.co.uk were kind enough to send Cloud Bite 3 very different cases to review so here is that new review…

AFT (Anti-Fingerprint Technology), Blue, £12.99

The AFT Case is a stunning shiney case with a grainy feel to it designed to repel your fingerprints. This is a really good feature as the iPhone itself is a fingerprint magnet and many of the hard style cases also attract fingerprints which makes the iPhone look dirty and really dull not as shiny as it should be! You can get this case in many colours the one in the Picture below is the Blue but there is also Green, Red, light Blue and Silver to choose from. The case feels pretty sturdy too. The top and bottom are uncovered so this case will not give you the best protection, but that isn’t what it was designed for, this is more of a style case designed to get you noticed and brighten up your iPhone!

Overall I am impressed with the case, it is my least favourite, but I think thats because the blue isn’t to my personal taste but if you are after something that is a bright and doesn’t attract fingerprints!

Of the three cases this was my least favourite but it is still a beautiful case. You can get this case from CaseFun.co.uk for £12.99

Explorer Case (Yellow), £9.99

The Explorer case is designed to give you the ultimate protection. Whether you are out and about exploring the world or just drop your phone alot! This case will give you the best possible protection short of dragging your phone around in a padded briefcase. The case gives all round protection even for all the the ports and buttons. There are small flaps that cover the the silence switch, the headphone jack and the dock connector. The inside of the case is form fitting but the case also extrudes a lot in order to keep the phone as far away from the impact point as possible should you drop the phone.

The hard inside part of the case gives strong protection and the rubber coating absorbs shocks. You also get a plastic screen shield that fits securely in the case along with a plastic disk that protects the Apple logo on the back. Why the back? Well the case has been cleverly designed with a small hole that shows the Apple logo so everyone will still know you have a iPhone!

Overall this case really opened my eyes. It showed me what sort of protection you can get for your iPhone. I was confident to bang the iPhone around and even drop it knowing the case was safe. (Check out the Review Video). The fact the case comes in lots of colours too like Bright Red, Hot Pink, Lime Green, Blue, Purple and of course Yellow ads to this great range.

You can pick this case along with all the colours mentioned from Case Fun for a Brilliant Price of £9.99

Jeans Series Case (Purple), £8.99

Finally we have the Jeans Series case. It is the cheapest of the bunch and my favourite of the bunch too. The Jeans Series Case is for those of us who want that unique look. I have never seen a case like this before and the name really doesn’t do it justice. Yes the pattern on the back is just of Jeans but when actually seeing the case in the palm of your hand the design jumps out and looks almost 3D. The texture of the case matches the jeans look and not only aids the look of the case but feels great too. So often I have nearly dropped my phone due to shiny cases that slip out of my hand. This case allows you to get a good grip on the case without having to be made of a rubber material!

The pictures really don’t do the case justice and for £8.99 you really can’t go wrong. No the case doesn’t give you the ultimate protection unlike the Explorer but if you want something different something that will get people talking it is this case. I really recommend you take a look at the video Review below to get a close up look on this case.

I had a look around the web and saw the case selling for £16.99 so Case Fun really are selling it at a bargain price. This is the case I have decided to keep and im tempted to get the other colours, Black, Green and Brown too just to see what they are like. Finally just like the AFT case above this case isn’t affected by fingerprints either so it constantly looks great!

Overall this case is fantastic, it gets 4.5 clouds and is definitely my pick of all the cases here. You can pick this up from CaseFun for just £8.99

Unboxing

Top 5 iPhone 4 Cases

With the iPhone 4 release just around the corner your probably so excited waiting by the door for delivery or preparing your camp bed ready for the early morning queue that you have completely forgotten that you will want to protect the beauty from scratches, drops, dents or even more permanent damage! Well to help you Cloud Bite has come up with the Top 5 Must have iPhone 4 Cases from ones to enchance the look to the ultimate protection! Take a look at the range and pick the right iPhone 4 Case for you!

Official Apple Bumpers

Firstly Apple, like they did with the iPad have made Official Apple Cases they are calling “Bumpers”. The cases come in a variety of colours and protect the edges of the phone. Like with all Apple Products you know they will be made well and the buttons are covered up with metal preserving the iPhone look but protecting it at the same time. All the ports of the iPhone are fully accessible as well! They do only protect the sides however and are rather pricey for what you are getting, but if you like the look of this iPhone 4 Case then you can pre-order it a Mobile Fun!

Cygnett Snaps Duo

Next up we have the Cygnett Snaps Duo. Looking a lot like the Apple Bumpers but costing a lot less these are ideal! Not only that though but you will actually get 2 different coloured covers and screen protectors. They come in a few different colours than the Apple ones with the addition of an Aqua, Royal Blue a striking yellow and red case along with Black, Grey and Orange! So if you like the idea of the Apple Bumper but want to avoid that premium price then take a look at this iPhone 4 Case!

Cygnett Frost Matte Case

Thirdly is the Cygnett Frost Matte Case not only does this case look stunning it provides you with all round protection in a range of cool colours from Black to Pink, Purple to Red, Blue to Orange! The Frost case has an anti-fingerprint coating that keeps the phone looking new. It is designed to give you a tight grip on your phone and slides into your pocket with ease! Finally it is pretty durable and will protect your brand new device from all those scrapes, dirt and fingerprints! So if you want to keep your phone all cool and frosty the Cygnett Frost Matte iPhone 4 Case is for you!

Case-Mate Fuel Max

At number four is the ideal case for those of you who just cant stop playing with the iPhone! What is an iPhone without any battery power? Well, an expensive paperweight! The last thing you want to do is use the iPhone be it for gaming, navigating or, we shouldnt forget actually calling someone and run out of battery! you don’t want to walk in the office showing, Jim? your new iPhone 4 and suddenly the battery die do you! Well this case, the Case-Mate Fuel Max Case has a built in 2000 mAH battery built right in! So as soon as your getting low on juice flick the switch and you will be charging your iPhone! Forget taking a battery pack with you just have it built right into the case, that way its less faffing, less to loose, less to carry, simples! This iPhone 4 Case is for you heavy users!

Case-Mate Torque Case

Lastly I have spotted this funky looking case. With millions of the iPhone 4 to be sold over the next few months there will be several people walking around with them and you will want to protect yours but also stand out in the croud! Well the Case-Mate Torgue iPhone 4 Case you not only get form fit protection but full all round protection and with full access to every iPhone 4 function. Case-Mate is a well established brand known for quality and protection and that ethos continues through to their latest products!

So thats all my line-up for you but if your not sure about any of these our friends over at Mobile Fun have an iPhone 4 Case to suit you. Infact at this time of writing, they have 173 for you to pick from!

Review: Cloud Bite's Editor Mark Reviews the TomTom Navigation app for the iPhone 3G and 3GS but was it really worth the wait?

The Wait is over...

In June at the WWDC TomTom officially announced an app and holder were coming and for the past 2 months ive been waiting for it to appear. Well now, finally after all the wait, its here TomTom for the iPhone. In this blog post I will review the App and see whether or not its a great addition to the iPhone App Catalog or has the wait been for very little?

For the testing of the TomTom iPhone App I am using version 1.0 with the UK Maps costing £59.99 from App Store installed on a iPhone 3GS 32GB. At this point I haven’t got the Holder as it is not available at time of writing.

After initially install the TomTom and loading it for the first time it seems to load the app really quickly. Within just a few seconds your are able to access the menu to input the destination you wish to travel to which is great.

TomTom Main Menu

Menus

TomTom have done a great job with the overall design of the app. Rather than using the standard layout of majority of TomToms they have gone for the more native layout of the iPhone and it works really well. The icons look fantastic on the iPhones screen and the navigation through all the menus is simple and very responsive.

The Main menu features quick and easy access options which help you navigate around the app quickly and effectively. TomTom have created larger buttons as well so that you can use the App at a distance and easily hit the correct button. The menu flys up and down by the flick of your finger and the elastic band effect is also present in the App. Overall TomTom have done a great job with the menus and overall look of the application and allowing the user to either navigate through the menus in portrait or landscape is again another great bonus.

Settings

TomTom Settings Menu

There are several settings available with the TomTom for the iPhone however there are also several that appear to be missing which means several TomTom features are missing from the app.

Firstly you are able to set your home location. This is just to make navigating from where you are a little easier by saving you from having to type this in everytime. There is the option to change the voice settings but sadly these seem a little restrictive as there doesn’t appear to be a way to add voices nor is there many to choose from and the English UK Man (Tim) doesn’t sound very English to me.

Simple Map settings such as map colours, show streets on the map and poi’s can be found under “Map”. The layout is the simple on and flick to off tab buttons that are standard with the iPhone.

The Route Planning settings allow you to turn “TomTom Safety Cameras” on or off. These are basically speed cameras however in the UK they are referred to as “safety cameras”. Also you can turn IQ routes on or off. It is good to see that the TomTom App does come with these two features and IQ routes for anyone who isn’t sure what they are, is simply a way which TomTom uses historical information of routes to give you the clearest and quickest route to your destination. For example if every Tuesday at around 5pm traffic levels seem to be high on A34 TomTom will try and navigate you away from this road at that time. It’s very clever!

Selecting your Destination

TomTom Route Type

TomTom allows you select your destination using either a favourite place you have marked, an address requiring number, street, and city, a Poi from a large range that TomTom has pre installed including, beaches, cinemas, petrol stations, restaurants, hotels etc, Postcode if you know the number and postcode you wish to go to, or a contact from your iPhones Contacts Book. So all the options on the standard TomToms are here with the added option of the ability to pull in addresses from your contacts!

The TomTom gives you all the options in which sort of route to take when travelling. You should always pick the fastest route over shortest as fastest is the safer option and avoids narrow roads. TomTom also adds the walking route type and bicycle route now could this mean TomTom are planning to release a iPhone holder for a bike maybe? The only downside I would say is I left the TomTom app on the menu screen, i.e not navigating for about 2 hours and the battery in the iPhone went from 100% to 14% therefore I would only use this for walking/biking short distances unless you have got a charger at your destination or something like the mophie battery pack.

Navigating

TomTom Navigating

TomTom Navigation screen is really clear. The colours can be changed from within the Map settings and the Navigation screen can change to night view from the Main Menu.

The iPhone has a great screen the colours are vibrant and clear, the screen can be very bright or nice and dull for night driving. The map jumps off the screen which is great as this was a problem with my TomTom PND as the screen wasn’t as bright nor could it display as many colours which meant the screen looked rather pale in bright light.

The Navigation screen can display Poi’s on the maps as you can see with the image on the left the map is showing a bus stop. The maps can be set to show which poi’s interest you or can show none at all.

TomTom Speed Cameras

The TomTom app is also able to navigate in widescreen which in my opinion makes the navigation a lot clearer as the bottom bar is more spaced apart. You can see in the wide-screen picture how the speed cameras are shown. The unit will alert you with a sound and on the screen it shows the max speed you should be going and the distance in yards or meters to the camera.

The voice informs you of when you what direction to travel in but sadly it isn’t that clear. This is due to the iPhone speaker not being very great at all. However the iPhone mount promises to improve this so i would definitely consider getting this if you choice the TomTom app.

The iPhone never lost a GPS signal and found the satellites within seconds of starting the navigation. The accuracy seemed perfect with it following me exactly where I was and auto updated when i purposly left TomToms route.

Calls

One problem I have found with the iPhone is the support for calls. If someone calls you the call goes over the top of the app. So if you decided to answer the call you won’t get any navigation, no voice, no images. Personally I believe if you answer the call when driving the call should be minimised so the app can still be used. When the call is ended or you decline the call the app reappears and carries on from where you are not where you were so it is keeping up with your position. One thing I will note is the TomTom mount says it supports Hands Free calls, so whether this will change when used with the mount I’m unsure but I do hope it will.

Another calls problem is there is no option to call a contact or open the Phone dial screen when in the app which means if you want to call a contact you have to close the app which seems rather silly considering my old TomTom had this option built right in.

What’s Missing?

There is several parts of the standard TomToms which aren’t available in the TomTom app.

No TomTom Services – i.e. no Traffic Information, no Fuel Prices, no Weather Services and no Local Search with Google. – I believe this is probably because TomTom charge it’s PND customers £7.99 a month for these services, so they wont want to give this for free however it does seem rather silly when the iPhone has a constant built in Internet connection.

No Text to Speech – Many TomToms have the ability to read whats on the screen i.e “Take the next Left towards Birmingham, M6″. This is very useful when going around a roundabout or when you need to get in the correct lane of the Motorway.

No Map Share – Another feature missing is Map Share. The maps are only updated every so many months and only if the Highways Agency informs the Map provider of changes. What Mapshare does is it allows users to report errors and these are then updated to all the devices using Map Share. This way users tend to have an up-to-date map earlier than Official updates.

No Advanced Lane Guidance – I have heard users saying there is no advanced Lane guidance which shows you via an image which lane to get into. This is very useful on the Motorway.

No Option to add voices, car icons, overlays etc.

No Voice Commands – Finally many TomToms have the ability for the user to say where they want to go using there voice.

Overall

Overall I feel the TomTom application is a good addition to Appstore for £60 for the UK Maps or £80 for the Western Europe Map. Considering the cheapest Wide-screen TomTom the XL Classic Regional v2 has the same features of the iPhone UK Maps App +Map Share for £159.99 the £100 difference does seem good and you are getting value for Money. However I feel until official pricing of the mount for the iPhone is released and it’s currently been suggested it could cost £113, it might be worth waiting to see if this will add more features and then way it up against the cost of an actual TomTom Device.

I found the app easy to use very accurate and it’s a great navigation app for a fantastic mobile device. I just feel TomTom or restrictions set by Apple have limited the use of application but I am hoping TomTom may add these features in the future.

Finally if your after a app on your iPhone that will get you from A to B I can say TomTom will do this perfectly. It is a great app just lacking on the little extras that would make it perfect overall I give it a 7/10.

What are your thoughts? I’d like to know what you think…

It’s Monday and it’s time for another Review of my Top 5 apps. This week I have reviewed..

WordPress App, Ebay App, iBomber, Sheep Launcher and WiFiTrack…

So lets begin…

WordPress – £Free

WordPress App – (Requires Data Connection and of course a WordPress Enabled Blog)

The WordPress App is a must for all anyone running a WordPress Blog whether it be personally hosted or hosted via WordPress itself. The app gives you a simple and easy way to connect to a blog and manage posts, create posts, read, approve or delete comments and edit pages. The app is a simple way to add delete and edit content on your blog but nothing more. You can’t manage blog settings like plugins but it is a great app that will allow you to blog while your on the move!

eBay – £Free

eBay App - (Requires Data Connection)

eBay is the biggest auction website in the World and with this app designed for both buyers and sellers the whole process is made much easier. The app organises the data very well and perfectly sized for the iPhone. You are able to search for products, log into your account to manage your bids, which you can also do from the app, manage your items for sale, pay for items using the integrated Paypal support. Another great feature is the Push Support. If your watching an item or bidding on a item that is ending soon you will be notified by the push notification reminding you so you can make those last minute bids. This is a great feature as if your like me you often miss bidding on items if they end when your not at your computer! Overall install this app if you buy/sell on eBay it is a great help!

iBomber – £Free (lite) or £1.79

iBomber App

This next App I have is for all those iPhone gamers. iBomber is another game that fully utilises the accelerometer. The aim is to complete the missions set. You are a pilot of a plane who is required to bomb specific targets sets. You control the direction of the plane and its speed by tilting the iPhone in the direction you require to go. A Tip is to keep checking the the radar which will help you see where the enemy is! As always I try and find Apps that have a lite, free version available if the full app isn’t free and I am happy to say iBomber does have a free version with one mission which will give you a great idea of what the game is about.

Sheep Launcher – £free (lite) or £0.59

Sheep Launcher App

Sheep Launcher is available as a free lite version or a 59p full version which as I just mentioned about iBomber is great for anyone not sure whether to buy the app or not. The idea of this game is to launch the sheep by hitting the “Launch” button and keep the sheep up in the air in by tapping the sheep when it begins to fall. If you miss the sheep will fall and that’s game over but if if keep going you can get really high, even into space! It’s another one of those coffee break apps.

WifiTrack – £0.59

Wifi Track App

My Final App of this Week is a useful app for anyone who often uses Wifi on iPhone/iTouch. It’s also great for anyone who wants to set up a wireless network or troubleshoot one too! I’ll explain why… The built in Wifi finder for the iPhone/iTouch is ok but lacks some useful information and some useful features. What this app does is it shows you what sort of wifi connection is in the area around you like, WPA, WPA2, WEP etc, it also shows you the strength of the signal and what channel the signal uses which is great for setting up a Wireless network as you can make sure yours isn’t on the same channel as your neighbours which might improve the signal! The main feature I like about this app is the ability to set the app to automatically rescan for networks every 1 – 60 seconds and also alert you via a sound and/or auto connect if the signal is open and above a strength that you feel is adequate. Why would you want to constantly auto scan? Well when I was on holiday I needed a wifi signal to download an app over 10mb but couldn’t find one. So I used this app and just drove around. I didnt have to drive far and the phone alerted me it had found a Wifi Spot so i pulled over downloaded the app and was on my way. I know you are able to view lists of where some wifi spots are but in the UK many of these are wrong or missing. Overall this is a great app if you use Wifi often and well worth 59p!

So that’s another week of fantastic apps for you to try. If you have any apps you want me to check out Tweet me (@marksblog) , add a comment, e-mail me just get in iTouch! (See what I did there! )
