iPhone 4S Out Today – Did you get one?

So did you get one? We are sure you heard that the earth’s greatest gadget (some may question that), got released today. Apple’s announcement of the iPhone 4S raised mix emotions, some loved it some were disappointed from the lack of iPhone 5. That’s why we don’t write up every rumour on Cloud Bite, we would hate to disappoint. Siri is likely to be the biggest attraction to the iPhone 4S as that’s pretty much the only “cool” feature that has been added, unless you love taking photos and 1080p video that is! Many were up early this morning queueing for the iPhone at Apple stores, O2 stores, infact any store that had them! Co-pilot wrote on twitter “These guys had been queueing for the iPhone 4S on Regent Street for 160 hours. ” Many sites have also popped up lately with screenshots of Siri in action and it has some pretty humorous replies to some, “interesting” questions. So I ask again, did you get one if so which, why, and how! Were you queueing since 5am and what did you upgrade from, would be great to know!

Steve Jobs Passes Away 1955-2011

Today news broke across the world as a fantastic visionary passed away. Steve Jobs will be know to many as the man who brought so much to the world in terms of technology and vision. Just a day Apple unveiled it’s latest and greatest gadget the man who has been the core of Apple for so long has passed away after fighting poor health for several years. All may not agree with his methods, but all must agree that he was a fantastic man that has helped humanity push forward and create breakthroughs many would have thought impossible. Cloud Bite would like to wish Steve’s family and close friends all the best and thank him for being such a great man in a small world.

Apple Announces iPhone 4S

So Apple has announced the Successor the best selling iPhone of all time, the iPhone 4. Called the iPhone 4S similar to the iPhone 3GS, Apple has done little to the design of the phone but increased it’s speed by including the A5 Dual Core CPU. They have also included a fantastic 8mp, f2.4, 1080p video recording camera with video stabilisation. Also included is Siri. This is from a company that Apple brought out a couple of years ago. Siri lets you talk to the iPhone and ask anything like, “Will I need a raincoat” and the phone will check if the forecast says it likely to rain. Also you can dictate text messages, set up your calendar and control music. You can now download up to 14mbps with the new chip and antenna design. Finally of course the iPhone 4S will include iOS 5. iOS 5 will be released on 12th October for iPhone 3GS, 4 4S, iPod Touch 3rd/4th and iPad 1/2.

Apple Announces 200 New Features in iOS 5 (Dev Beta out NOW)

What an exciting WWDC (World Wide Developers conference) today! Apple has announced a lot this time around and we have all the 2 hour event condensed down for you so lets kick off with iOS 5. Apple calls this it’s biggest overhaul of iOS and we have to agree!

At the conference Apple mentioned 10 of the 200 new “User” features for iOS so here are all 10:

Notification System

Finally (and to be honest about time) Apple has introduced a new Notification system. No more annoying little blue pop ups interrupting workflow or gaming with little information and possibly the ugliest thing on the iOS. Now notifications are right at the top of the device and pop up but do not interrupt what your doing at all. You can swipe down all notifications from the top of the OS very simply, Android users will know all about this feature. Also Notifications are listed shown on the lock screen (YAY, Sorry been wanting this for years). So Apple finally make use of that wasted space on the iOS.

NewsStand

Simple app to house Magazines and newspaper subscriptions. I would of thought this would come under iBooks but who knows its Apple.

Twitter Built Right in!

Yes Twitter fans now Twitter will be built right into the iOS with a single sign-in. It can freely use location, camera, photos and let you tweet from anywhere in iOS and even photos out of the photos app! Nice!

Safari Reader

Already available on Safari for desktops and now Safari Mobile. This basically strips all the markup (Styling) from a webpage showing you just the content. Also added is a read later type feature allowing you to make a list of what you want to read.

Ever used Things or another to-do app? This is Apples version for reminding you of things you have to do or places to go, simple and neat, nothing more to say!

Camera Updates

This got big cheers in the presentation. The camera can now be used without unlocking the device right from the lockscreen. For the security consence it wont let you see other photos taken only the ones you just took. Also the Camera now allows you to zoom in click a particular area for better exposure control! Also Grid lines help you level those shots too! Finally you can now use after years of wanting this so simple feature, the Volume up button to take photos with (got a huge cheer). Saves you hitting that screen knocking the device off when you just aligned it perfectly!

Photo Editor

You can now edit photos on the fly. Want to remove things like Red-eye? Well you can!

Split Keyboard for iPad

iPad users will know its hard to use the keyboard in portrait because well the iPad is just too wide. Now it will split in 2 allowing you to easily type, yay

PC Free

Thats right! You finally don’t need to sync with your PC! The device can do this wireless. Also no more connect to iTunes to activate after you brought the iPhone just setup on the go! Also over the air updates will be available so no more plugging in to update just hit the update button! Also only features changed in the update download so no more huge 500mb downloads to update a bug!

iMessage (not kidding)

Feel free to lol at the name, we did. But iMessage is a feature just for iOS users thats allows them to message each other from ANY iOS device and allows the sharing of pictures and video. Looking at the demo it seems this is rather like an iOS exclusive iM

iCloud

This is a rather large feature so we will be making an exclusive post for it so check that out!

With its updated sleeker design, cameras, duel-core CPU and Smart Cover has Apple ensured they maintain their lead on the tablet market or are other catching up? iPad 2 Comes to the UK at 5pm Today!

Today is the day some people have been waiting for in the UK. Apple are releasing the upgrade to the iPad, iPad 2. With Smart Covers, faster processor and (poor) cameras Apple’s upgrade is also thinner than before and prices start at £399. People have already been reportedly queuing overnight and the pre-orders on Apples site only recently went live with a expected ship date of 2-3weeks.

The iPad2 wasn’t the upgrade many were hoping however with a rather low amount of RAM, 512mb, compared to other tablets. Also the iPad only features a rear camera with a sensor resolution of just 0.7mp, yes 0.7mp isn’t a typo, meaning it is the worlds first device that captures images at a resolution lower than the devices screen! Talking of screens many wanted to see a retina update to iPad 2 but sadly it didnt achieve that and the screen is no different from iPad 1.

So will you be getting iPad 2? We certainly won’t be!

Apple Introduces iPad 2

Apple have released a new version of the iPad, the iPad 2. The iPad 2 features:

1GHz Dual Core CPU
Front (VGA) and Rear Camera (720p)
HDMI Output support via dock.
9x Faster Graphics
Giroscope

So far there are no details on the Ram size but it looks like it will be 512mb over 1GB which is a real shame.

New MacBook Pros with ThunderBolt Technology

Today Apple released upgraded Macbook Pros with Intel Thunderbolt Technology. Details and even photos of the Macbooks were leaked early so it wasn’t much of a surprise but hey, its from Apple so we love any announcement right? The new Macs feature Sandy Bridge Processors, AMD Graphics and new Thunderbolt technology.

Thunderbolt?

Yeh, Thunderbolt is a new connection that allows transfer rates of 10GBPS 5 more than the long awaited USB3! Also the port is smaller and Intel say it will not only be for things like Thub Drives, External Drives, printers etc but also has a high enough bandwidth for HDTV, and ideal for transfering video files. The technology can transfer 10-20GB HD Video files in just 30 seconds! Also the technology can be used to replace internal pcie and sata ports!

AMD Graphics!

Goodbye Nvidia! Apple have chosen to go with AMD for their graphics offering up to 3x more power than the previous generation.
Sandy-Bridge CPU!

Sandy Bridge is the latest CPU range from Intel and they are quick! Infact Apple states up to 2x faster than previous Macbook Pros!

Apple Holding iPad 2 Event 2nd March!

It’s official Apple are holding the iPad 2 event on the 2nd of March 2011. The invite says “Come see what 2011 will be a year of” so maybe this won’t just be an iPad event which would tie into the rumours of a new Macbook!

iOS 4.3 Beta 1 Out!

Apple has released iOS 4.3 Beta 1 to Developers, just a day later than Verizon’s (US Carrier) announcement of it now carrying the device. This version of iOS was expect before Christmas but who can ever guess what Apple are doing? Hopefully this version will fix the problems of many iPad users are experiencing with wifi (see Apples Forum!). 4.3 brings several new features however support for the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd Gen has been removed sadly. Why this is could either be 4.3 features are only supported on later devices or Apple have just stopped support earlier than usual (usual stops on major release i.e. iOS 5.0. New Features found in 4.3 so far are…

Firstly Personal Hotspot has been introduced. This allows iPhone users to act as a hotspot allowing other devices to connect to it and use the devices internet connection. This feature has been available before using the the likes of the MyWi App but only available to Jailbreakers. One of the major questions is the iPhone currently allows tethering however Carriers charge extra for this if Apple enable this feature to everyone Im sure the carriers wont be happy so we shall have to wait and see! Andriod devices have had this feature for a while and not been charged any extra.

Secondly Apple have added Multitouch Gestures. Using 4 and five fingers can swipe through apps and make the multitasking bar appear. These features are only available for the iPad at the moment but it maybe Apple are finally trying to make things simpler to use!

Thirdly we pick what our switch does! iPad users will love this in iOS 4.2 Apple removed the ability to use the switch on the side of the iPad to lock the rotation of the screen and made this a silent switch moving screen rotation lock to the multitasking bar. Why on earth Apple did this when you just click the volume down button for 2 seconds which puts the iPad on silent anyway I don’t know, anyway it seems now you can decide which of the features it does, good!

Fourthly Airplay Support Improved by allowing developers to also stream their content using the airplay and not restricting it to just Apples Applications.

Finally Full Screen iAds have been introduced on the iPad and HTTP Live Streaming Stats for tracking how many viewers actually interact with the ads.
