Well there’s a shock! MuscleNerd has already jailbroken the iPad 3 in a matter of hours since it’s launch.

Apple Announce New iPad

Today was the announcement of the new iPad 3. Apple didn’t fail to please people with the unvailing of the brand “New iPad”. Yes the new iPad is called exactly that… “new iPad”. No iPad 3, no 2s, no HD just “new iPad”. Anyway moving on from the not so great name, are the fantastic new features. Nothing announced hadn’t already been said in rumours but never the less, the blogosphere and social media crowd seemed generally impressed with the new iPad features so here we are to sum them up for you.

Firstly, and probably the biggest selling point, Retina Display comes to iPad. The 2048 x 1536 display on the iPad means the screen has double the resolution of the previous generation and 40% better saturation for greater colours.

To power this impressive display is the A5X CPU featuring quad core graphics 4x superior to Nvidias Tegra 3 chip.

Next up 5MP iSight camera featuring 1080p video recording with image stabilisation, auto focus, white balance and even face detection.

4G comes to iPad to bring speeds of over 70mbps. Just a quick note in the UK however 4G isn’t available yet but should start rolling out next year.

iLife including iPhoto and iWork have all been updated to take full advantage of the iPads new resolution.

Dictation has also been added so you can now dictate to the iPad however Siri has been left out which some are rather unhappy about.

iPad 3 (HD) Rumour List for today’s Apple Event!

Apple will be announcing the latest and greatest iPad at today’s event (along with a new Apple TV, possibly). Here we have broken down the rumours for the event to what you are likely to see today.

What Devices will be announced?

It’s pretty much 100% guarantee a new iPad will be announced based on many rumours plus the Apple Official invite sent out. Likely names for the iPad are the obvious iPad 3 however recent rumours suggest this next iPad would be more of an iPad 2s but called iPad HD. Also it’s been highly suggested we would see a brand new Apple TV (possibly iTV). Unlike before though when the Apple TV has been a box you add on to the TV this time it could be a whole new TV Set with Siri built in to control volume, channel changing etc.

What sort of Spec will the new iPad have?

Strong rumours indicate that the iPad will support a new much higher resolution display. Infact 4x the amount of pixels as before aka double the resolution of the current 1024×768 iPad. Likelihood - 90%
CPU Speed boost: Rumours for a while suggest the new iPad would support a new A6 Quad Core CPU. However these rumours have recently died down since a photo showing an A5X CPU was showing suggesting the iPad will have instead a faster Dual Core CPU rather than a new Quad Core. Likelihood - 80%

Increased Ram: Its likely the iPad will see a Ram boost however there has been a lack of rumours regarding ram. 768mb? 1GB? Hopefully the iPad will feature at least 1GB but it’s Apple so who knows?
Increased Capacity: Some Rumours suggested there would be an iPad larger than the current 16GB, 32Gb 64GB available. However others contradicted saying Apple will actually drop the 64GB iPad. With the increase in cost of flash memory due to the Thai floods it’s unlikely we will see and increase in size however I’m sure the iPad 64GB will remain.
8GB version or 8GB iPad 2: Some also suggested there may be a new smaller 8GB version aimed at academics for a lower cost. However with an increased resolution app sizes are going to grow, also iTunes U (education books) can be around 2GB in size meaning you couldn’t fit many on a small 8GB iPad. I doubt we would see an 8GB iPad. Likelihood - 10%
4G – Some suggest the new iPad could support 4G. For those who don’t know 4G is the next version after 3G. 4G supports a much higher increase in speed for browsing and downloading content from the web. However it has some downfalls mainly battery life. 3G sucks alot of juice and 4G uses even more so until batteries increase in capacity it could seriously hit the iPad’s battery life if it included 4G. Also for people here in the UK 4G isn’t going to be supported widely (i.e. across the UK) until 2015, so the benefits of 4G here would be limited.
8mp Camera – Rumours suggested the new iPad would have the same 8mp camera as found in the iPhone 4s however this is unlikely. Why? Because Apple doesn’t see many people using the iPad as a main camera, and would rather people get the iPhone for that. What is more likely is the camera will increase to support 1080p meaning it could acutally be around 2mp in size or more likely 3mp. This is a shame really as cameras are rather cheap now so including at least 5mp isn’t so crazy. Likelihood of 8mp camera – 10%

Will the iPad have Siri?

This is a great question. Some say yeh of course others say no it won’t. So why would Siri be included? Well people expect it for one. They expect for the iPad to have Siri as what usually happens technology introduced previously would be included on the newer device.

However why wouldn’t Apple include Siri? Well firstly Siri needs an internet connection, something that the iPhone has pretty much all the time. However the iPad doesn’t have a connection (unless you have the 3G one) when your out and about. So if Apple included it many people would find it annoying that they couldn’t use it without being connected to the internet all the time. Also as proof of this the iPod Touch was not updated to include Siri probably due to that limitation. Also Siri is designed to aid you to use a small device when walking around. People rarely walk around with the iPad and being a larger device it is much easier to use and therefore might not need Siri.

So all in all will Siri be included. I highly doubt it :- likelihood 20%.

Will the design of the iPad change?

There were many rumours regarding the next iPad design. However as the day of announcement has drawn closer it seem’s the iPad won’t look that much different other than being less than 1mm thicker (to support the newer display) and a more tapered edge. Will pricing change?

Rumours did suggest there could be a $70-$100 rise in the price of the iPad. This however would be very unlike Apple who often keep the prices very close to their originals. Hopefully we will see no increase. Likelyhood of increase 20%.

The rumours are picking up and it was suggested an Apple Event was heading for the 7th March. Now its been confirmed!

iPhone 4S Out Today – Did you get one?

So did you get one? We are sure you heard that the earth’s greatest gadget (some may question that), got released today. Apple’s announcement of the iPhone 4S raised mix emotions, some loved it some were disappointed from the lack of iPhone 5. That’s why we don’t write up every rumour on Cloud Bite, we would hate to disappoint. Siri is likely to be the biggest attraction to the iPhone 4S as that’s pretty much the only “cool” feature that has been added, unless you love taking photos and 1080p video that is! Many were up early this morning queueing for the iPhone at Apple stores, O2 stores, infact any store that had them! Co-pilot wrote on twitter “These guys had been queueing for the iPhone 4S on Regent Street for 160 hours. ” Many sites have also popped up lately with screenshots of Siri in action and it has some pretty humorous replies to some, “interesting” questions. So I ask again, did you get one if so which, why, and how! Were you queueing since 5am and what did you upgrade from, would be great to know!

Steve Jobs Passes Away 1955-2011

Today news broke across the world as a fantastic visionary passed away. Steve Jobs will be know to many as the man who brought so much to the world in terms of technology and vision. Just a day Apple unveiled it’s latest and greatest gadget the man who has been the core of Apple for so long has passed away after fighting poor health for several years. All may not agree with his methods, but all must agree that he was a fantastic man that has helped humanity push forward and create breakthroughs many would have thought impossible. Cloud Bite would like to wish Steve’s family and close friends all the best and thank him for being such a great man in a small world.

Apple Announces iPhone 4S

So Apple has announced the Successor the best selling iPhone of all time, the iPhone 4. Called the iPhone 4S similar to the iPhone 3GS, Apple has done little to the design of the phone but increased it’s speed by including the A5 Dual Core CPU. They have also included a fantastic 8mp, f2.4, 1080p video recording camera with video stabilisation. Also included is Siri. This is from a company that Apple brought out a couple of years ago. Siri lets you talk to the iPhone and ask anything like, “Will I need a raincoat” and the phone will check if the forecast says it likely to rain. Also you can dictate text messages, set up your calendar and control music. You can now download up to 14mbps with the new chip and antenna design. Finally of course the iPhone 4S will include iOS 5. iOS 5 will be released on 12th October for iPhone 3GS, 4 4S, iPod Touch 3rd/4th and iPad 1/2.

Apple Announces 200 New Features in iOS 5 (Dev Beta out NOW)

What an exciting WWDC (World Wide Developers conference) today! Apple has announced a lot this time around and we have all the 2 hour event condensed down for you so lets kick off with iOS 5. Apple calls this it’s biggest overhaul of iOS and we have to agree!

At the conference Apple mentioned 10 of the 200 new “User” features for iOS so here are all 10:

Notification System

Finally (and to be honest about time) Apple has introduced a new Notification system. No more annoying little blue pop ups interrupting workflow or gaming with little information and possibly the ugliest thing on the iOS. Now notifications are right at the top of the device and pop up but do not interrupt what your doing at all. You can swipe down all notifications from the top of the OS very simply, Android users will know all about this feature. Also Notifications are listed shown on the lock screen (YAY, Sorry been wanting this for years). So Apple finally make use of that wasted space on the iOS.

NewsStand

Simple app to house Magazines and newspaper subscriptions. I would of thought this would come under iBooks but who knows its Apple.

Twitter Built Right in!

Yes Twitter fans now Twitter will be built right into the iOS with a single sign-in. It can freely use location, camera, photos and let you tweet from anywhere in iOS and even photos out of the photos app! Nice!

Safari Reader

Already available on Safari for desktops and now Safari Mobile. This basically strips all the markup (Styling) from a webpage showing you just the content. Also added is a read later type feature allowing you to make a list of what you want to read.

Ever used Things or another to-do app? This is Apples version for reminding you of things you have to do or places to go, simple and neat, nothing more to say!

Camera Updates

This got big cheers in the presentation. The camera can now be used without unlocking the device right from the lockscreen. For the security consence it wont let you see other photos taken only the ones you just took. Also the Camera now allows you to zoom in click a particular area for better exposure control! Also Grid lines help you level those shots too! Finally you can now use after years of wanting this so simple feature, the Volume up button to take photos with (got a huge cheer). Saves you hitting that screen knocking the device off when you just aligned it perfectly!

Photo Editor

You can now edit photos on the fly. Want to remove things like Red-eye? Well you can!

Split Keyboard for iPad

iPad users will know its hard to use the keyboard in portrait because well the iPad is just too wide. Now it will split in 2 allowing you to easily type, yay

PC Free

Thats right! You finally don’t need to sync with your PC! The device can do this wireless. Also no more connect to iTunes to activate after you brought the iPhone just setup on the go! Also over the air updates will be available so no more plugging in to update just hit the update button! Also only features changed in the update download so no more huge 500mb downloads to update a bug!

iMessage (not kidding)

Feel free to lol at the name, we did. But iMessage is a feature just for iOS users thats allows them to message each other from ANY iOS device and allows the sharing of pictures and video. Looking at the demo it seems this is rather like an iOS exclusive iM

iCloud

This is a rather large feature so we will be making an exclusive post for it so check that out!
