Review: Logic 3 iPad 2 Leather Case - We check out a great looking iPad 2 Case from Mobile Fun!

There’s only so many times I can open a review of case telling you why you should protect your new wonderful, but delicate device from dust, dirt and drops. The fact that your even reading this probably indicates your looking for a way to protect your new iPad 2. So less introduction lets get into the review.

From a case you want 3 main features, firstly Protection this is the most important, secondly usability, a case with little usability of your device is useless, and finally extra functionality. So can the Logic 3 iPad 2 Leather Case hit 3 features.

Protection

Protection is one of if not the most important aspects of a case. Why add a case that covers up the beautiful elegant design of the iPad if it adds absolutely nothing. The Logic 3 Case adds a hefty amount of protection to the iPad. Its soft leather feels great in the hand but also offers great absorption of shocks from drops. The leather is attached to strong board meaning it wont bend easily and keeps the case in a solid shape. The case offers full coverage protection including the screen and only the required ports like the headphone jack, camera, and lock button are uncovered.

Usability

Some cases cover up way too much of the device. The Logic 3, as just mentioned, gives you access to every port, button and switch and a quick open of the magnetic front flap provides access to the screen. Magnets are cool aren’t they. The logic 3 features a magnetic flip front flap that keeps the iPad locked in the case, and unlike button flaps magnets provide a quick open and closed access to the iPad which is great!

Extras

We all love a little extra and its great when designers have thought of something extra to add to their product. The logic 3 case gives you a stand for your iPad, ideal for typing up notes or drawing.

Video Review:

So overall the Logic 3 Leather Case is one of the best iPad 2 Accessories that we have reviewed. Its professional style and design looks great for any professional and would be a fantastic accessory for any iPad 2 user. Therefore the Logtic 3 iPad Leather Case receives a 4.5 cloud rating.

Thanks to MobileFun.co.uk for sending me this to review!

Have we got the iBallz to Review the iBallz for the iPad and other tablet devices? Of Course we have!

In the past we have reviewed many cases designed to protect your precious gadgets. Theres a lot of cases out there and it takes something completely ingenious to stand out in this saturated market. Well the iBallz team have managed just that! There unique design puts them solely in their own category and streaks ahead of the boring old case manufacturers. What’s so special about the iBallz? Well lets find out…

What are iBallz?

Well let me tell you. iBallz are 4 EVA Balls attached together with a cord. You place a ball on each of the 4 corners of your device, be it the iPad, Kindle, Motorola Zoom and others, then you pull the cord nice and tight and thats pretty much it!

Ok so now my Device has the Balls but what now?

If you have ever dropped your device you will know how about that sudden rush of fear you feel. Hopefully it was protected when you dropped it, well drop it with the iBallz on and you should be safe! The 4 soft shock-absorbing balls will absorb the impact of a drop of your device and their unique design means your device should never come in contact with the ground no matter how you drop it! Not only are they great for drops but also for spills. The amount of times I have knocked over a glass of Pepsi Max on my desk while, working, (gaming), is too many to count and every time I have to quickly rescue my gadgets. With iBallz there is no worry as they cleverly raise the device off the surface so any liquid spills will just be able to slide right underneath and never touch the device, clever eh?

Nice so drops sorted, spills sorted anything else?

Glad you asked! Remove one of the iBallz and put it in the centre of your device and you instantly get an angled device ideal for drawing on or typing using the virtual keyboard. Another great feature is with the cord you can actually hang your iBallz pretty much anywhere so if you want it hanging on a door, wall you can which is great for storage and gives a unique way of viewing the device. Finally when gaming they are great. Why? Well they give you a different and in my opinion a much better way of holding the device giving you greater comfort over longer periods and also additional control. In racing games you feel like your actually holding a wheel now!

I love it can I get one?

Of course you can our friends over a MobileFun sent us this and you can pick up your own along with lots of iPad 2 Accessories and other great stuff like this!

Update 16/07/2010: After the Emergency Apple Press Conference this evening announcing that those having issues with the iPhone signal can get a free bumper case from Apple this offer from Mobile Fun has now ended:

Update 16/07/2010: After the Emergency Apple Press Conference this evening announcing that those having issues with the iPhone signal can get a free bumper case from Apple this offer from Mobile Fun has now ended:

“I’m just dropping you a note to keep you up to speed with what’s happening. As you may have seen from their press conference, Apple have caved under the pressure and decided to follow the lead of companies such as Mobile Fun in offering free cases to fix the “death grip” problem. This is a brilliant result and something we should really have seen from them much earlier! As such, and since we’ve given away almost five thousand free cases, we think it’s time for us to bow out and let them take the lead.” Mark Riley Head of Marketing

You are probably aware that Apple latest and greatest creation, the iPhone 4, hasn’t had the smooth start in life that past iPhones had. With the late arrival of the white phones, yellow marks on the screen, and reception issues this version of the iPhone needs a few solutions to the problems. Regarding the reception issue due to the design of the new iPhone the outer steel band acts as the phones antennas and when the joins are not covered the signal is supposed to be the strongest yet! However cover the two connections with your hand and the signal quickly drops leading to dropped calls or an unreliable quality in calls. There have been a few solutions to this such as “Hold it another way” but this can be pretty annoying considering the best way of holding the phone causes the problems. Well another is to use a case…

Apple are selling “Bumper” cases which are reported to solve the problem as will any iPhone 4 Case that prevents you from joining the antenna together. The Apple bumper cases retails at £25 and considering you have problem just shelled out a fortune for your new iPhone you don’t want to be spending a fortune just to fix your signal issues!

Free iPhone 4 Case

Well our good friends at Mobile Fun are giving away a free iPhone 4 case which will completely solve your signal issues and protect your iPhone 4 from scratches aswell for free!
When using the iPad I found myself resting it flat down on the table when typing or trying to prop it up when watching video over a extensive amount of time. Well until Mobile Fun sent me the Portable Desktop Stand!

iPad / Laptop Desktop Stand

If your a iPad owner, or you have had a go of one in the store, I bet your first impression was “ooo it looks nice” and secondly “ooo its pretty weighty”. That was what I thought anyway. The iPad was a lot heavier than I first thought it would be. With that gorgeous aluminium back, massive screen and packing all that power it will be a rather heavy device. When using the iPad I found myself resting it flat down on the table when typing or trying to prop it up when watching video over a extensive amount of time. Well until Mobile Fun sent me the Portable Desktop Stand!

The Portable Desktop Stand is an ideal solution to the problems I have previously mentioned. With the ability to hold the iPad or a Laptop at so many different angles its perfect for assisting when typing, watching a movie, sketching, gaming the list goes on! Holding the iPad can be cumbersome for some games, and espically when writing out that email or trying to watch the, what is it 7 hour trilogy of Lord of the Rings! Why bother when you can get a stand to do the hard work for you! And don’t think you need one for the office and one at home, because the stand folds up really small and even comes with it’s own little pouch to put it in! The stand can accommodate pretty much any iPad Case as-well so you don’t have to use a bare iPad with it! I didn’t have a laptop on hand to try with it but the stand is very strong so anything up to 15″ possibly 17″ should be fine!

When I asked to review it I thought it would probably be a cheap plastic stand but it really isn’t. It is really well built and holds the iPad perfectly. Why bother with the Apple dock when you can get this which you can use on multiple devices and take it anywhere?

Really Portable.

Great look and feel

Not expensive.

Accommodates portrait and landscape iPad plus laptops.

When anouncing the original iPhone 2G way back in 2007, wow how times have changed since then, he said one of the problems with the latest smartphones is they have stylus’ that are a faf to use you break them, loose them have to get them out put them away and why use a stylus when we are all born with one, the finger!

When I first heard him say this I agreed. I had been using a phone with a stylus since 2003 and yeh I agree I found them a pain to use so the movement away from these seemed a great idea. However with the introduction of the iPad I felt that a Stylus would aid the functionality of the device, let me tell you how!

iPad Dagi Stylus

One of the great things about the iPad is its big screen! Which means the iPad is great for sketching, drawing diagrams or even taking notes in Lectures and meetings! I personally can’t wait to take my iPad into a lecture instead of a bag full of random sheets of paper! One of the problems though with the iPad is that limiting yourself to just using your finger makes it difficult to make hand written notes with any sort of precision. Also drawing is a little hard too. Your finger covers a large surface area, and so your covering up some of the screen which is annoying if you want to do something accurate! The DAGI iPad Stylus solves this issue!

The tip on the DAGI is transparent apart from a tiny red dot that shows you the centre of where it is touching and designed to aid the accuracy. The tip is plastic so you dont have to worry about using it on either the bare screen or with a screen protector. I will say, that I tried it with a Zagg invisible shield and a clear plastic film screen protector, and it did work better on the latter. This is because the Zagg has a rubber feeling to it and the stylus couldn’t glide as well on it but did work fine.

Also the stylus does take some getting used to. In order for it to work correctly you must use the flat tip directly on the pad. So you have to constantly hold it at a certain angle. This can take some getting used to and on the first couple of tries you may think “this is rubbish” but stick with it do some practising and you will soon be writing essays on your iPad and if you use an iPad Case, especially the iPad Flip Case the pen attaches onto it so you dont have to go searching for it!

If you want to see how it works in practise check out the review video below:

Overall I am pretty impressed with the Dagi it’s the best stylus I have come across so far, I recommend you stay clear of the cheap ones on eBay, I tried them and they arent very good at all, this is far better!

Gives greater accuracy over your finger.

Ideal for writing notes and drawing sketches

Not too expensive.

Great look and feel

Cons:

Takes some getting used to.

Doesn’t work as well on an Invisible Shield.

Review: Brodit iPhone 3G/3GS Car Holder

Whilst in the car you should keep you phone secure, and I don’t mean in your hand. In the UK it is illegal to drive whilst using a mobile phone or any device to communicate with unless it is hands-free. If you are caught using your phone whilst driving there’s a £60 fine and 3 Penalty Points added to your licence! Keeping the phone in a secure place like held on the dash and using a hands-free kit is legal as long as it doesn’t affect your driving take a look HERE for more information on the law in the UK.

Review:

Now the Legal bit is over lets get on with the Review. I have had several Phone holders in the past, ones that stick to the window, ones that clip on the air vents but they have all been cheap and pretty rubbish. I like to have my phone in an area I can see it so I know who’s calling but want it to be secure and not just resting in the drinks holder of the car. The Other Day @mobilefun Tweeted a message saying a blog post of some of the best iPhone Car Holders had been reviewed (you can see the original blog post here). So I decided to check it out as I hadn’t got a holder for my iPhone and really could do with one. After reading the blog post and seeing other reviews and chatting to Andy from the Mobile Fun Forum, I decided that the Brodit Passive Holder was for me!

Brodit Passive iPhone Holder

The Brodit is rather expensive Just under £20 for the holder and just under £15 for the clip to add it to the air vent but I had just hoped it was better than my previous holders that snapped off or just drop the phone. I Ordered the items on Tuesday 28th July at about 3pm and to my total amazement they were with me at 12PM Today! 21 Hours is a pretty good turn around great service from Mobile Fun! I opened the package and took out the Holder and it has a soft feel too it also it is molded perfectly to the iPhone it wasn’t loose at all the holder gripped the phone brilliantly but left all the buttons and dock exposed so that I could have easy access to them! The Brodit feels really sturdy, its plastic, but a strong plastic not your flimsy cheap rubbish. The Holder and Clip feels as it is made to last which is great no more problems, I hope.

The Packaging is plain and simple it’s just see-through plastic and has some black and white instructions. The clip comes separate as you pick the clip for you car model so it is designed to fit perfectly. I personally didn’t find the instructions for the clip great to be honest, the wording was a little confusing and the picture seemed to show the clip being inserted into the vents rather than over the vent and in between the radio and dash. But I managed to figure it out and when it was in place it was going nowhere. You get a little adapter that creates a gap in between the joins of the cars parts (I’m no mechanic), this allows you to insert the clip. Whats great about this way is the clip just wont move its pretty much locked in so it wont fall down. The next step is screwing the holder onto the clip. This bit can be tricky as there is no pilot holes in the clip so that you have the freedom to position the holder but a good bit of pressure and the screws will make a whole in the plastic. This is where you can clearly see the strength of the Brodit. The plastic doesn’t snap at all and when the holder is screwed in place you would think that the Brodit was a permanent feature of your car. I slid the iPhone into place plugged in the charger and went on a little run. I didn’t go far as it has been an awful day today but ill take it on a full long drive soon and update this post if I have any problems.

Ive listed the pros and cons to the Brodit below and hope you find them useful:

Pros:

Very well made strong plastic built to last.

Moulded perfectly for the iPhone 3G/3GS (other sizes available from Mobile Fun)

Has a Soft yet firm grip on the iPhone so no scratches but it is impossible to slip out.

Can tilt in Multiple Directions to give you the best viewing.

You can use the phone easily in the holder as it holds it in a firm place.

All buttons and dock can be accessed, there’s no covering of any buttons.

Can be added to the dash by screwing, no screws with a pro clip or Window with a suction mount (all available from Mobile Fun)

3 models, Passive (exposed dock connector – the one i got) Active ( Holder with Charging Lead always connected) and Passive with Dock Dock phone sits in a dock which then can have FM transmitter charger etc plugged in.

Cons:

Rather Expensive compared with other mounts but you can see why with the quality.

Not easily removable if using the Proclip and holder as it is in tight. So if you have multiple cars and want to move it around get the Window Suction.

Can’t be used with a skin. The holder is accurately moulded for the iPhone and therefore doesn’t allow a skin.

Overall:

The Brodit iPhone 3G/3GS holder and Proclip is brilliant. It’s sturdy yet elegant design will keep your iPhone safe and secure whilst driving. If you are after a car holder for you phone then look no further. Also I really recommend Mobile Fun for UK customers (no I don’t work for them or get commission). They sent the items out really quick, I have used them many times in the past and never had a problem. The forum although quiet has a great member of the Mobile Fun team (Andy) on hand to answer any queries you have too! Also check out all the other accessories for you phone not only iPhones!
