Major iPhone Security Vulnerability - Fixed

All iPhone users should connect their iPhone to iTunes in order to update the software to 3.0.1. A major security flaw was found in the iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS which allowed hackers to gain access to all the phones details including contacts, e-mails etc by sending a set of hidden SMS to the phone.

Apple responded by pushing out a update on 31/07/2009 – 1/08/2009 which fixes this flaw. It is recommended everyone updates. You wont loose any data as the iPhone is automatically backed up first and it took me about 5 minutes to install the update.

A spokesperson for O2, the iPhone’s service provider in the UK, said: “We will be communicating to customers both through the website and proactively. We always recommend our customers update their iPhone with the latest software and this is no different.”

So plug in that iPhone, update it and you will be safe, well for now!
