It’s that time of year again! For some it’s a start of a new journey, some the start of the end. Some of you may be nervous, optimistic or maybe you can’t wait to go to School, College or University. Whoever you are and whatever category you fit into Cloud Bite is here to help you get through the next year with gadget recommendations that are guaranteed to help you. Sure they may not directly improve your grades, but they will help make your school/college/university life that little easier! So here it is our guide to Student Gadgets for September 2010!

Apple iPad
We couldn’t have a gadget guide for Student’s without including something from Apple! So first up is the iPad. I personally got one of these just for University, it is ultra portable, you can view PowerPoint lectures, pdfs and write up some notes with the iWork suite. You can check your e-mails, surf the web update twitter, all whilst in a lecture, (shhh I didnt say that). If your reading this guide you will know what the iPad does. The update in November will make the iPad a really great device for Students. It is lacking multitasking at the moment which I am really annoyed about, but in November it will be here so that will be good only a couple of months to wait. The iPad is great if you just need easy quick access to information on the move. The battery power is great as well which gives it an edge over laptops. If you don’t think the iPad will meet your needs check out netbooks/laptops below!

Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Wildfire
Next all Students need a phone. Now you can pick up a simple phone for around £15 from Places like Argos and The CarphoneWarehouse but they usually are only good for calls and texts. If like many students you need a bit more there are some great choices on offer. Of course right up there is Apple’s iPhone 4 but the prices are really high especially for Students on a budget. The Samsung Galaxy S is a good alternative for those who don’t want to use Apple’s iOS and prefer the Android route but again the price is high. I therefore recommend those students who want great features but are on a budget take a look at HTC’s Wildfire. This phone is packed with features, 5MP Camera, GPS, friend stream to stream all your facebook and twitter updates. It runs Android 2.1 soon to be 2.2 (Froyo) aswell and has a decent CPU and Ram. Best of all its around £200! Over half the price of an iPhone. It does lack a little on the screen but overall is a great phone. A friend of mine has this phone and says “for me personally it does everything i need it to do, and its a fraction of the price compared to pretty much every other phone.” Nip into Carphone warehouse and you should be able to have a go but be sure to check the net for the latest price!

Macbook Pro and Dell Inspiron 15r
Now if the iPad didn’t tickle your fancy, how about a Laptop. There are loads to choose from. As usual Apple are right up there with the Macbook and Macbook Pro. However as with all Apple products they are pricey. You can get a Macbook for around £700 but you are limited to a 13″ and for that price you only get a older core 2 duo and 2GB of Ram. If your going into video production a Macbook Pro is the way to go as it will give you the power you need but be prepared to spend a fortune. If however you want something quick but haven’t the money for a Mac or maybe your not interested in the Mac Range then a Dell Inspiron 15r is a great alternative. For about £570 you get 4GB Ram a Core i3 processor at 2.2ghz 320GB Hard Drive, 15″ screen a decent video card, built in webcam, bluetooth and wireless N adapter. My sister got one of these and I have managed to play Modern Warfare 2 and maximum detail without issues on the Laptop! Be sure to do a search in Google for Dell Student Store and you get a little discount too!

Epson and HP Printer
Finally you will probably be printing lots out during your year and therefore you will need a printer! Sure the Schools/Colleges/Universities have printers and really good ones however the cost can cripple you! Last year I spent £13 at university just printing out one Assignment in colour, and colour always looks better for presentation! Therefore this year I have made sure I have stocked up on ink. These two Printers however the Epson Stylus SX415 and the HP Photosmart all in one, scan print and copy pretty much anything A4 you throw at them. Both have extra features like direct photo printing as well and retail for around £50! As always do some searching pick up discount codes and you can get these for less. Really nice printers for really nice prices. Also the printers are sure to last you several years too, so don’t worry about having to replace them often but you may need to buy cartridges, all depends how much you print. If printing in colour a good tip is to set the printer on Fast rather than Normal or Best as this uses less ink. Some quality is lost but they still print nice documents. Also if your just printing in Black look for a option to “Use Black cartridge Only” this makes sure your printer is wasting colours to make the colour black and a black cartridge is often cheaper to replace too!
So there you have it, Cloud Bites Student Gadget Guide! Hopefully this will help all those students out there! Also good luck on this year whether your in school, off to college, graduating from university, no matter what have a great year, enjoy it and have fun! What gadgets will you be taking with you?
