So it’s been a while to wait, will it be the iPhone 6, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, iPhone 4G or even “New iPhone”? Well in a swift keynote Apple announced the new iPhone is indeed called the iPhone 5 and as with every release is apparently “The biggest thing to happen to iPhone since, iPhone”. We have heard that too many times now but anyway lets check out what new features this one has.
New 4inch WideScreen
This year sees the introduction to the first iPhone screen size change. Retaining the Retina pixel density, Apple has stretched the screen to 4 inches. The rumours all suggested the iPhone would get a taller screen and after the SGP iPhone 5 Case appeared from Mobile Fun we believed it was certain! This provides a much taller or if your looking horizontal wider iPhone. This is great for things like gaming and videos as the iPhone now matches the 16:9 resolution. Its also useful for apps that need a little more real estate like iMovie for example.
Slimmer and lighter than ever before
The iPhone is now just 7.6mm thick (wow) and just 112grams in weight meaning its the thinest & lightest iPhone to date! It’s all glass and alluminum body help to reduce the weight of the device overall meaning it feels really comfy in the hand. The iPhone now has the 44% smaller nano sim card and the new lightning connector to help reduce it’s size. Overall iPhone 5 is 20% lighter and 18% thinner than the iPhone 4S
Black and White
You can get the new iPhone in Both Black and White like before. However this time the White features a plain aluminium back while the black has been painted black to match it’s design.
The iPhone now boasts “Ultra-fast Wireless” i.e. 4G up to 100MBPS or 150MPBS via wifi. The new 4G service, unlike the iPad works around the world on supported networks, EE and O2 in the UK. This will be great for those who consume a lot of data but not so great if your stuck on a 500mb monthly package!
Apple have introduced the new A6 chip which is 2x faster than the A5 chip found in the 4S with 2x better graphics too. It also helps battery life with up to 8 hours 3G and 4G browsing, 8 hours talk time and 10 hours of video playback.
The new iSight camera while very similar in spec to the iPhone 4S camera, it can now capture 28MP panoramas by stitching together several vertical images. Video footage has improved with the new stabilisation and noise reduction from the A6 Chip too. You are able to take photos as you record too!
The new Facetime camera supports 720p quality and can also work over the air. Meaning you no longer need to be using facetime via wifi or downloading a hack from the cydia store!
With iOS 6 the iPhone will now get turn by turn directions built into the new Maps app no longer provided by Google. Siri can tell you directions as you travel and you can view maps in 3D and even take flyovers of areas. Along with this Siri has improved movie information and you can use passbook to keep your coupons and tickets in one place. Check out our Guide to iOS 6 for more details.
