Apple today announced sales figures of the latest iPhone hit a staggering 5 million in just it’s opening weekend. Of course this will of been helped by Apple choosing to sell the iPhone in more countries this year for it’s opening weekend than ever before but still 5 million handsets is a lot of phones. Apple’s previous iPhone, the 4S sold 4 million in it’s opening weekend therefore the iPhone 5 sold over 1 million more handsets. It’s likely people from older handsets helped make up the numbers however early stats did indicate around 50% of upgraders were iPhone 4S users. Apple also announced 100 million devices have upgraded to iOS 6 and more are sure to follow when the jailbreak hits.
Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone.”
Some analysts did predict a higher number of sales however Apple is sure to be happy with the number sold. For all you lucky iPhone 5 users out there be sure to get an iPhone 5 Case Some users have noticed the back of their iPhones has been scratched already, especially users of the black iPhone, so as much as you may love looking at your iPhone, be sure to keep it safe!
