It doesn’t seem too long ago Amazon announced it’s arrival into the tablet market with the Kindle Fire. Well today Amazon announced a further two tablets, Kindle Fire HD and an updated 7-inch Kindle Fire. The KindleFire HD with a screen size 8.9-inch will hopefully help Amazon compete with Apple’s iPad while the 7-inch model will compete with smaller tablets. The 7-inch model will come with 16GB and sell for £159 ($199) while the 8.9-inch model will sell for $299 or $499 for the premium 32GB 4G model. The basic Kindle Fire will sell for £129 ($159) down from $199 and will ship from 25th October along with the HD models.
CEO Jeff Bezos said “We Haven’t built the best tablet at a certain price, we have built the best tablet at any price”.
Amazon also released a new e-reader known as Paperwhite. It features a higher resolution monochromatic display and a body that is “thinner than a magazine, lighter than a paperback”. Paperwhite will be priced at $119 or $179 with a 3G connection.
Rumours suggest Apple is creating a new smaller iPad designed to compete with the Kindle Fire and other 7-inch tablets. It looks like Amazon have pipped Apple to the release but it will be interesting to see the number of sales.
